4H 2016

Both boys learned a lot this year on their 4H projects.
We decided to keep them simple becasue drop off and much of the week was during our friends visit!
Joe chose lego/building projects
and he had many to choose from, but was very proud
of his latest Knex creation, so he chose that one.
He still shows in mini 4H, he cannot wait until the real deal next year.

And this project, he is super proud.
I love it, too. Mainly, we love it because he made it with dad and grandpa.
His category was space; he was to make a rocket with items around the house
(or farm), and he got to use a welder.
Big points for dad this time, mom's crafts are not comparing any more.

And Sam chose to do collections and farm scene this year.
He chose to take his favorite basketball cards.

Look at that smile, he can't wait to hang it on his bedroom wall.

He won champion, was proud of that Purple Ribbon!
Looked extra special in the display case!

And his farm scene won Champion as well,
he had fun creating with dad!

A Rod without a Reel

We left our friends at the airport and decided to lift our spirits
a bit with some retail therapy.
I need a couple of things from Trader Joes...almond butter, hello, yum.
And coconut chips, get in my belly!
And I spotted this store...
I don't know anything about it but
Blake sure does.  I knew she would swoon over
Nordstrom Rack.
I went in a looked around and she texted me a dozen times
And
would you believe I did not buy a thing?
Overwhelmed? I am not a big department store gal.
One shirt jumped out at me, but typing this
I do not remember what it was, ha.

And these two boys scored some new school stuff at the Nike outlet
and our shopping bug and zapped.  At least I thought...
so we grabbed some lunch,
we decided it was super quiet without our friends.
And my picture limit for the week was at a max, so no cooperation from these boys.

But then, DH remembered Bass Pro
and we made a stop
and
DH spent a gift card on a new rod.
Not a rod and reel, just a stick.
What?
It is a stick with a grip on the end. SMH.
We had to send a picture of this the Mark
a Frog?

This was only a dollar, totally worth it
although it was tricky and I'm not sure the boys were very successful.

Big smiles from all 3 boys, the 4th slot was broken, boo.
We wrapped up shopping and headed home...because
there were Minecraft legos calling our name..
told you obsessed with building them as  soon as they are opened.
Joe asked for Sam's help, great sharing!
We relaxed a bit and then went to spot the boys projects at our 4H fair.

Busy summer week!

And for our week so far...
Sunday night we spent at Grandma and Grandpas for Father's Day cookout,
but both families had been outside all day, so we spent much time inside, ha.
Seeing which grandkids can do backbends.

And, no matter how late, these puppies get their first soak
and spray when we get home.  Murphy's Oil soap is my last step when all else fails, so far they have come clean!

While we got ready for the week the boys finished the lego set
(and a neb treatment)

And I stayed up with Sam to let him watch his beloved Golden State
Warrior team (Steph Curry and Klay Thompson) in game 7 of the NBA Finals.
The series was tied 3-3 with the Cleveland Cavaliers
and Lebron James.
Sam's team lost the game, but the show I got from his cheers as they battled was worth staying up for!

We did a little consoling and Sam was most upset that there would be no magazine or book that we could buy about the championship(we have those from last year, you know)...that was what he was most upset about it.  Love him and the way his mind works...

The sting of the loss was quickly replaced by his upcoming class at VUJC for video game design.
Big thanks to Grandma for driving him down this week, it has meant a lot to him!  He has smiled and given details and wants to teach Joe about what his has learned.

I snapped a picture outside work with his special new flash drive.

And this guy was at work with me one morning for a few minutes before he got picked up for summer tennis.

Monday night, we went to the Daviess Co Fair to support Cole's girlfriend,
she is the beauty in the coral dress.  She was so very beautiful and was full of confidence
as she ran for 4H fair queen.
She came away with People's Choice, Miss Congeniality, and 1st runner up.
What a great honor!

And, rerun...I feel like I already posted about mulch this year..
oh wait, I did.  DH did not like our first round.  Enough said,
this showed up in our driveway this week.
I thought the blue farm truck (with the dump bed) was broken down,
but I guess it had a trip to the mulch place in it. I spread this in the heat yesterday
afternoon and it caused me to be very grouchy.  It better find it's own way on.
I do mulch when it is not hot..it is hot.

Joe is enjoying baseball camp this week.
Love the summer programs our school has for the kids!

Joe's first picture at the high school baseball field, hope he continues to love this game!

And guess what else we are gearing up for...4H.
We kept our project simple this year because our friends will be here visiting the week of 4H this year!

Fall Farm Day

I was invited to Sam's fall farm day at the 4H grounds.
It was, by far, my favorite field trip.
I was so thrilled that I got to go.

I had a sweet group of kids, and we rotated stations about every 20 minutes.
And WE learned so very much.
Sam absorbed it all.  He recounted every station
(in order because his mind works that way)
for DH when we ate dinner that night.
I cannot say enough good things about this day.

We saw a dog trainer and her special pup.

We made air popped popcorn and learned about the kernels and popping process.

We had purple cow smoothies.

And we held 1 day old baby turkeys

We learned a ton from a forester
and about ATV safety and bee keeping
and drug safety

And electric lines

And lunch was a hoot.  Many officers were there
and they had the two rival schools in our county cheering against each other.
I don't think the teachers loved it, but I thought is was loud and pretty awesome.

The day ended with a silly safari show, was super cute and Sam was thrilled
to be chosen as a volunteer.

Got to see nephew Drew all day too!
They served pizza and he got so tickled because every trip up
they gave him the piddly comer cut triangles, we laughed so hard.

4H Champions!

Had a very excited and proud boy  when we learned that
he earned Champion on his cupcakes.
I didn't know he liked Purple so much!

His lego project got a 1st, and he was pleased with that

 Joe's project earned blue ribbons!
