Kids Money Manager

We started a new money manager system for the boys about 3 weeks ago
and we LOVE it.  All of us, boys included.
The brilliance came from here
She also has another brilliant idea that we are testing out, tell you soon.
I could spend time beating myself up for not thinking of these ideas myself,
but they are already pretty cool and hey I get some credit for putting them into place right!!

Each boy got his own binder with a pouch for money, a calculator, pencil and simple ledger
pages that I made up (DH the accountant ate those up).
Once weekly the kids earn an allowance.  For us this is not tied to chores.  Our purpose here is to teach money management with tithing, so this works for us.  They have the opportunity to earn additional money for chores, so we are trying to teach that too!
Our biggest focus is on Saving some, sharing some, and of courses spending some.

Sam was most excited about his escalator (tee hee calculator) but we mostly add without it.
After they get their allowance, we ask them to put a portion into their bible case for
offering during sunday school.
They had less than five dollars after the first week, so we took them to Walmart
to see some ideas of thing they might want to get.
They realized it would take FOREVER to get them.
I made them a little tally sheet to mark off the weeks as they got closer to their goal.

We have used this chart for a long while now so they get an additional dollar for a complete chart.

It has really encouraged them to seek out chores. Joe asked to help daddy dry dishes to earn
a some money after supper

For now Sam has reached his initial goal of a Uno Cash game and wants to head to Walmart soon.
Joe changed his goal  from a 50 dollar item to an 8 dollar item and he got that this week, Geo from Team Umizoomi is the newest member of our home.
Soon we will work on the saving portion of the deal.  For now I wanted to introduce them to earning a working towards a goal.  They are both so proud of their earnings.  I'm sure we will need to make some adjustments over timing but so far so good!
