Memories at Graber Hill

The Graber family has come to a place where this old treasure will become a fond memory.
A very fond memory indeed!
The old farm house on 1200 E was built on sandstone and it's foundation is failing
and Uncle Larry needs a place to call home that suits his needs.
It's almost too hard to type. but the farmhouse is being taken down this winter.
It's certainly going to change this view.
I've been a bit surprised at how many memories the boys have here at the farmhouse and
how sad they are that is is being torn down.  They've spent a lot of days here often while mom is at work.  And gathered cookies from Grandpa Great and Larry. They've played ball in the corner of the kitchen on the goal formed by the back of a door against the wall  (just like their dad did) and came inside to escape the heat (or the cold) and grab a pop from the fridge on the summer porch.
  A lot of memories.
For me the memories began in 1993 when I met Grandma Ida and he she beckoned us in from the drive way with a loud Come In, Come In, Come In!!!  I mean if anyone came near the house, she made sure they were welcomed inside.  She never failed to come up with a fabulous meal no matter if she planned on us coming or not.  And when she did plan on us coming you had better bet there was a feast waiting for all of us from her normal size kitchen!  One last thing, you had better plan on staying a bit because there was a game of Rook to be played.
I remember learning to make cinammon rolls and New Year's Day butchering - the best part is the land stays and new memories will be made.
The sibilings had met and chosen their treasures and so the rest of us came and took turns
choosing items that are special to us.  I chose that brown chest there in the back of the summer kitchen - DH is going to clean it up a bit and fix the lid.  Plan to use it in the basement for blankets!

Grandpa Donnie was showing me the seeder he remember Grandpa Great using to
seed the wheat fields by hand.

Gathered one last time

The Grands had a couple items they wanted DH wanted a gun that was special to him
and then the Great Grands had their opinions as well.

Some things were chosen that didn't have much monetary value but were full of memories.
DH asked to bring that china hutch in the photo home and sure enough it fits
perfectly in its new home here.

One last thing I had asked from dibs on was these sandstone steps out the backdoor.
They were always the way to throw the scraps out (which I always volunteered for after dinner because I got to see the farm cats!)

Handwritten treasures!

And I also chose some sliverware from this special drawer.
After dinner we always dried her Sunday silverware and put it back into this drawer.

It will be tough heading the the farm and not bouncing into that back door.

And so it begins, a new chapter at Graber Hill.
